Broadband Speed Test

Tip: Click here to Improve Windows Speed & Performance with Free Scan

Ever wondered what broadband line speed you are really getting? Are you paying for 8Mb, but you think you may actually only be getting 4Mb?

If so, then you can use the free Broadband Speed Test below to find your true broadband speed.

How It Works

Start the test by clicking the big button in the center of the page. The test first starts by downloading a file and measures how long it takes. After the download is finished the speed checker tries to upload a file and measures your upload speed.

If you want to get accurate results then you should not use your internet connection for any other applications once the speed checker is running, and run the test a few times so that an average speed can be calculated.

The broadband speed is measured in Kbps (kilobits per second). Approximately 1000 Kbps is 1Mb/s.

Connected Internet Broadband Speed Test

If you are having connection problems it could be down to packet loss and other internet connection issues, so you should also do a Ping Test which will grade your ISP adn provide details of packet loss percentage

So how were your Broadband Speed Test Results? Don’t forget to leave a comment below to share your results so that other readers can see which ISPs are good and which aren’t.

i am getting quite fed up with NTL services at the moment. Things seem to be going wrong, the speeds are never correct i am on 4 Mb and rarely get over 2 Mb.
    Thinking of a change.
  • ntl:Telewest are a very interesting company - basically Telewest's network and customer service is good, and ntl's is bad. Hopefully, ntl will get up to Telewest standards by the time the company rebrands as Virgin Media.

i agree NTl is also giving me reasons to goto another internet provider, about a month ago i upgraded to 10meg broadband with them but have never reached speds of more then 2, and with the 2 it rarely stays at that speed it soon drops to below 1 and have recntly been gettng speeds of less then 50kbps..

  • Another good, accurate speed test you might want to try is at my broadband comparisons site (broadbandgenie): broadband speed test

Would definitely appreciate any feedback on it. National average so far appears to be 4.1mb!

It gave me results of anything between 6.2 and 12.2Mb - I'm on on 10Mbps at the moment. I started a big download in usenet to test and I got a constant 9.4Mbps
  • I live by these speed test tools. It's helped me choose my cable internet and my residential t1 line. Comparing ISPs is a good feature. However, results seem to vary from test site to test site so folks should keep in mind they're not always to be trusted wholeheartedly.
  • I have myself a page dedicate broadband and I have a few Broadband Speed Test solutions. They are all free and I am not charging a penny. I have an online test and three downloads too for more accuracy.
