Allowing Anonymous Comments: A Good Or A Bad Idea?

A post on how to How to Blog for Fun & Profit! got me thinking about how comments currently work on Connected.

Currently blogware, which powers Connected, only allows blog owners to either allow posts from users who have created a blogware/reader account or anonymous posts from posters who don’t even have to supply an email address.

This makes sense, but unfortunately creating a reader account isn’t a simple process.   Users have to leave the blog and go to the blogware admin console where five fields have to be filled in – username, password (twice), display name and email.

On other blogging services users typically only have to supply 3 pieces of information – Name, email address and url and this is done within the actual comment form i.e. no extra clicks are required.

It would be great if blogware did this, as it would encourage more users to post on blogs they power.  Maybe someone from blogware will read this post……

For now, Connected is going to allow anonymous posts.  Let me know if you think this is a good or a bad idea (not an invitation to spam Connected!)
