Skype Video Conferencing – Are they using a proprietary codec?
Everton | Apr 12, 2005 | Comments 6
I just read a post on Skypejournal where they were testing Skype’s video conferencing service beta. The quality experienced at times was better than SightSpeed, which is impressive has SightSpeed have some impressive codecs.
Does anyone know what codecs Skype are using? Are they proprietary?

Thanks apakian. I visited the sites you posted and you seem to be directly involved in the projects. Can you share any more information about the codecs?
The codec is Skypesee. I have a good contact. Let me know if you need more info.
I have read this post. This is very much true. Even I own a blog account on video conferencing. Video conferencing is indeed a great innovation in technology and communications. One day video conferencing will be like an ordinary house-hold item in the next 5-10 years.I will mention your post in my blog.
I’ve heard about Courts using video conferencing technologies especially in the rural areas and villages. Even though it’s an expensive approach but it’s a great way for developing these areas.
