60 Million Blogs Worldwide

The blog herald reports that there are now over 60m blogs worldwide. A significant amount of these blogs are free blogs provided by the likes of MSN spaces and blogger.

Premium blogs are in the minority, with Six Apart accounting for 1.5m blogs and other services like blogware chipping in.

I have to agree with Peter from Blogware that the growth in blogging which is currently being dominated by the freebie services will eventually benefit the premium services as their users become more experienced bloggers and demand the kind of features only the premium services can provide.

This is how my own personal blogging journey worked. I registered for a blogger account to see what all the fuss with blogging was all about, then migrated to a Typepad account, and then settled on a blogware account, mainly because Peter and Errol from blogware gave me a free account.

You say minority but 1.5million out of 60million is still a pretty hefty percentage when money is involved on the net.

True 1.5m x $10 is $15m per month. Not bad when you think about it.
