Google started testing yesterday a mobile-phone service that searches websites that have been designed to deliver content customized for the small screens of mobile phones.
Google Mobile Web Search targets sites that use XHTML as the technology for delivering content to handsets, which allows a a web server to deliver content tailored to the accessing device.
I haven’t used the service yet as I think this is a great development. Currenltly I find it frustrating browsing on my 6630 and never being quite sure how each site is going to look. At least now, if I use the Google search engine I will only be presented with sites my phone’s screen can handle.
To use the Google service, people go to the company’s homepage via the web browser on their phones, type in their search query and select “Mobile Web (Beta)” as their search option.
