A new report, “Office of the future: 2020″ paints a pretty bleak view of how wireless technology will change the way we work.
“With the proliferation of wireless technology, staff will be expected to remain in close contact with the office while they’re away,” it says, in part. “Eighty-six percent of executives surveyed said workers will be more connected to the office while on vacation.”
I think we already have to deal with the ‘always contactable’ problem with mobile phones. The problem with wireless tech is that rather than having to deal with the occasional phonecall while you are ‘out’ of the office, you will suddenly also be asked to work on documents, or update a few slides etc. It will become harder and harder to say no and things are only going to get worse.
