Yet Another Redesign
Everton | Jun 22, 2005 | Comments
I’ve tweaked the design of my site yet again. The two major changes are removing the banner ads and switching to a two column layout.
I removed the banner ads because they weren’t generating that much money and also because I didn’t want to upset blogware, who are letting my have this blog for free, with the number of ads on my blog for competing blogging services.
I decided to swiich to the two column layout as without the banner ads I couldn’t really justify a three column layout. Doing this also encouraged me to remove more of the ‘noise’ that these columns were creating.
I’ve also made some other changes based on James comments:
- I’ve switched allowing anonymous posts back on. I think it’s a shame that I have to do this but I think the number of stages that are required to create a reader account give me no choice.
- I’ve removed the poll as it’s not really that exciting as not enough readers are voting
- I’ve removed the categories because based on what I’ve been able to glean from my stats , most of my page views come from my most recent articles i.e. the homepage and people finding a story of interest via a search engine not from ‘browsing’ my blog
I hope you like the new fresher look. If you there other changes you think I could make to improve my blog could you please post them here.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
