Broadband wars – just Speed Vs Price?

The broadband war will soon intensify in the UK as LLU allows operators like Wanadoo, AOL and Tiscali to offer their own products with speeds in excess of 8Mb and with the cable operators also planning on trialling high-speed services.

However, for those users who have already been tempted to Bulldog’s 8Mb service it hasn’t been plain sailing, with some experiencing poor customer support and service.

In the future as users get more savvy, ISPs will need to offer more than just various speed and price options. Strong customer service as well as value-added services will be key otherwise churn, which has been decreasing across the industry, will start to rise again.

  • As a consumer I strongly welcome competition in a service market. The providers with the best pricing, service and stability will inevitably be known. This is especially appealing if you are in the market for a higher end connection, such as a business t1 line.
