When I worked at Vodafone I always thought that the banking institutions would drive the real initiatives in mobile payments and its seems like I was right.
Today a new JV MobileATM, between IT firm Morse and the Link cashpoint network, has launched a mobile banking service across the UK. The service will allow users to check their balance, authenticate Internet payments, and transfer funds to their mobile phones.
It is hoped that the service will facilitate mobile payments direct from mobiles, for example to pay for parking meters or tube tickets.
