Does Firefox Really Have 71,115,024 users? (And Counting..)

For some strange reason I installed the Tickerfox extension for Firefox which shows a live feed for the number of downloads for Firefox.
Over the last day or so the count has speeded up and at first I thought, ‘great, more people are converting’. Then I realised that the counter counts how many times the application has been downloaded, not the number of users, and the reason that the ticker has increased over the last 24 hours is because version 1.05 has just come out and everyone is upgrading (you have to download a full new .exe not just an update).
Also, I’ve upgraded 3 machines where I’m the only user so again the ticker is double-counting downloads.
Given that Firefox in the last month or so has gone from 1.02 to 1.03, to 1.04 to 1.05 in quick succession (and who knows how many iterations before that), how many users does Firefox really have? 71,116,045 (its gone up since I started writing this post), 50m, 20m or even just 10m?
