I just had a quick look at MSN Virtual Earth. For those of you that missed this launch, Virtual Earth is:
Virtual Earth is a new map and search system soon to be released by Microsoft. Virtual Earth brings together a number of components that allow the user to find out “What is here?” and “Where are the nearest things to here?” The components consist of maps, aerial imagery, photos, business directories, ratings and reviews.
I tried out the locate by IP address function and I was impressed that the service placed me in London, particularly as I know my ISP randomly assigns IP addresses so I’m not sure how the service managed that. Anyway, I pressed on and tried a few searches that I thought would be popular:
- Pizza – No results
- Hotel – No results
- Taxi – nearest service was in Calais
I guess that MSN haven’t included Europe in the service yet as London (you may have heard of it – its been in the news quite a lot recently) is quite a big place were services should be coming up….
