The stats that come as standard with blogware are very good but after reading a post on Problogger comparing various stats packages I decided to try out a few to see if I could obtain any extra useful information.
After trying out a few services I’ve plumped for statcounter.com which offers for FREE data on how visitors find my site, how they move around my blog, uniqueness, visit length and where they live.
The service has a few extra features such as allowing the blocking of certain IP addresses or PCs so that your stats aren’t distorted by your own activity.
One drawback is that the detailed reports are only produced on the last 100 visits. This can be increased to 1,000 for US$9 / EUR7 a month, 10,000 for US$19 / EUR15 a month and 25,000 for US$29 / EUR24 a month. I’m going to see how I get on with the 100 before I decide whether or not to upgrade.
