How Successful Is Digg Really?

Digg is generating huge amounts of traffic and I’m sure that some of the people lucky enough to make it onto the homepage are getting decent amounts of traffic.

However, “jesusphreak” is conducting an interesting experiment to see if Digg really is generating traffic. He has posted a dummy post with an extremely catchy title and summary to see how many diggs he gets from people who just digg without even clicking through to see the article. It’ll be interesting to see how many diggs he gets as I’m sure there are a lot of “serial diggers” out there.

Check out his profile to see which article is the spoof one. You should spot it pretty quickly.

Silicon Valley thinks the same even though they have been ‘lucky’ enough to be digged twice. They are critical of a system where:

“stories with many diggs will automatically get more. But it will push hot blog postings forward, even if that story originated from a blog that only gets a few dozen pageviews per day.”
