Serial Diggers And Gaming Digg

Connected Internet made it onto the Digg homepage yesterday for the first time with 272 diggs and 31 comments on my article “How successful is Digg really?”. I was particularly happy to see that the phrase I coined, “serial diggers” went down well and I hope it sticks!I’ve been using Digg myself for about 3 weeks now and normally I just digg articles that I like (after reading!) but I have to admit that sometimes I can be a serial digger as it is a bit addictive.

I don’t usually read all of the comments that are placed, but given that this one was my article I read all the comments to see what people were saying about my post and I learnt some interesting things about Digg and how people use it:

  • If you want to game Digg then post about kevin rose, past techtv employees, diggnation, twit, the broken, system, Linux, Mac, Apple, Firefox or Steve Jobs.
  • Serial Digging could be controlled by forcing users to read a article before they are allowed to Digg. I think all submitters would want this
  • Some people use digg as a bookmarking system, digging lots of articles quickly that they want to read later
  • Some people just like to see the number go up!
