Connect To Google Talk And Skype Via Trillian

The launch of Google Talk created a bit of a dilemma for me this morning. I try to keep as few programs running as possible on my machine, which, I guess is a throwback to the days of DOS when a few extra k could be the difference between being able to get a program running or not. The last thing I wanted was another IM client running.Eventually I worked out how to get Google Talk working with Trillian which I already use to pickup my MSN, Yahoo! and AOL accounts.
It’s quite simple really:
- Download the Jabber plugin
- Then configure a new jabber connection using server: talk.google.com and port: 5222. Remember to uncheck “Use legacy SSL for connection”
If you want to use Trillian to pickup a Skype account as well then install the Skylian plugin. This isn’t as slick as the other plugins though, as Skype has to be running at the same time.
