News Orleans Hosting Company Fights To Keep 0.8m Sites Running
I’m pretty sure what decision I would take if I had to choose between potentially putting my life at risk, or my job. However, employees of Intercosmos Media Group are fighting looters, food and water shortages and looters in New Orleans to deliver on its promise of 99.9% availability.They are fighting to keep their data centre alive which is still up thanks to a backup generator, although they are running low on diesel:
We need diesel. We’ll find some. We have people depending on us and we are not going to let them down”
Given that aid is starting to make it through to New Orleans, hopefully these guys will get some much needed resources and diesel soon so that there efforts will not have been in vain. I’m sure that as this story spreads they will get a lot of new users flocking to them, especially as I think they will improve their disaster recovery process and probably open a second datacentre somewhere else.
