Microsoft And Yahoo Agree Instant Messaging Deal

Microsoft and Yahoo! are expected to announce later on today that their two instant messaging programs will become interoperable. A combined 49.2 million users worldwide will be able to chat and talk to each other for free - very close to AOL’s 51.5 million.

For years the three companies have been talking about allowing interoperability, but it was rumoured that AOL had been dragging their heels, so it looks like Microsoft and Yahoo! have decided to go it alone.

I wonder if the eBay/Skype deal spurred them into action.
