it allows you to browse sites at school or work that might be blocked like gmail or hotmail. To change your proxy do the following in Internet Explorer:

Go to 'tools' then click 'internet options

click on 'connections' and then 'lan settings' at the bottom

tick the 'use a proxy server' box at the bottom and enter your chosen proxy server at the bottom
