Honestly some of you saying that you can just buy the exact same spec for cheaper than the xbox... The problem is though, is that in this debate, hardly anyone mentioned the OS system and problems with PC gaming(To those who did I take my hat off to you). The thing about it is simply this: To get xbox graphics out of a PC, your PC spec MUST be better. This is because with an xbox, all it has to do is what it is designed to do, play games, videos and music, at individual times (barely any multitasking at all). With a PC however, you MUST be more powerful otherwise your game will be slow. As with a PC your system has to juggle a number of different processes, such as System Software like the OS system, and other processes, on TOP of the application software being run, i.e. your game, which takes up system power and slows it down. Also the OS system takes a major factor as certain OS systems have certain files that are needed for new games etc. I bet if you built a pc to the exact spec of the xbox it wouldn't be able to run what the xbox is able to due to the lack of processing power and RAM that is able to be put fully into the task. However, PCs are the Big Daddies of Gaming, and everything is built around them (take an xbox apart if it's got red rings and see what i mean, although your warranty will become null and void if you do). If you want a pc that can at least run the xbox and you want it cheaply, buy a pc case, buy an xbox (a cheap one if you want to save money), take the xbox parts out and shove em (effectively) in your pc. Then all you need to do is the occasional RAM and Processor upgrade (graphics card is fine unless your desperate for an upgrade) and your pc will become more powerful than the xbox can ever hope to be for under £1K. I was brought up a PC gamer, and I also play xbox and ps3 so i have a good idea of what each are capable of, and I am currently building up a pc to run Skyrim 100% graphics (My build is under £1K). The issue here though, is that although games for pc cost less, the games has been specifically designed for a higher end pc, due to the fact that the companies expect more output out of a pc than an xbox or ps3, due to background processes and current computing power. With a console, they only expect the single focus of the machine to run the game full graphics without any other processes (save saying when someone is online, xbox parties etc). Consoles do also have their drawbacks. There is the problem of lower graphical output than most consoles, which can be seen in most new games and plenty of old ones (compare Oblivion, Call of duty [any one of them] and all multiplatform games out there]. Consoles also have the dreaded "death light" phenomenom, which is due to system hardware failure and processor overheating. Although it's free to get repaired, it makes the consoles unreliable and means that you're always on edge about your xbox/ ps3 breaking in the next few hours or so. Overall, If you are willing to put the money in then a PC is definitely more worth it than a console. Your console will develop problems in about 3-4 years of ownership and will be constantly outstripped by PCs. However if you're a poor teenager/student a console is your best bet due to the cheaper costs, the way that it is quicker to load games (just push and play instead of installation) and it is more portable than a pc (allows you to take it to sleepovers etc, i know because i do it often and my console hasn't broken yet).

There is no competition between my PC and either of the consoles. I have a Radeon 5850 GPU, 4GB RAM and a quad core cpu @ 3GHz. However, the consoles get a lot more out of their hardware because the game code and OS are optimised for it. They are also a lot cheaper and offer an ease of use that PC's don't.

I have been playing all the consoles for a long time now and I just bought and built my destop PC. I love it. The PC I bought was all around 300 and it runs COD/L4D2 great! 300 is the price of a xbox 360 elite which has less hard drive space and just can't do things the PC can do. I also have been using my 37' vizio was my monitor and have my audio out for my computer going into my 5.1 surround sound system. I can play on my couch along with watching videos and checking up on the internet stuff I do. Pretty sweet, and I don't need to pay to play online for my games unlike the xbox 360 and sometimes DLC for games like L4D2 is free for the PC!

Sure most my friends own a xbox but what counts is I am saving money on xbox live service and for games (I got Cod:MW2 for $30 and L4D2 for $20) which are almost always less then console games plus you can find good deals on steam.

Pc is better all over, to get a graphics card to match a ps3 or xbox it would be a GeForce 6600 and there is much better cards than that

Xbox360 is by far better than a PC when it comes to playing games. About
60 - 70 percent of the PC's out there can't even handle hardcore games
without expensive upgrades and that doesn't even take into consideration
that you may have to do alot of configuration adjusting to get a game to
work proper on your system. Mostly i purchased online games from http://www.ordercomputer.com

The PC is only good the internet and thats it. Sure you can have outstanding Graphics but It takes longer to install Or update. With an Xbox you can just put in the disc and play the game.

Well Jazzy, your right. And as you know, PC gaming is dying because the major corps like Microsoft have seen billions in Consoles, instead of the little millions they would (if they where lucky) rig in from PC gaming. Reason? Torrents/Copies.

I don't blame them, but it also ticks me off that they just don't through a few hundred towards making a game for the 360 for Games for Windows.

Don't forget, in the early 90's, when you walked into a computer store, it would be nothing but PC games. But as the years went on, that died because people could easily replicate it and give it out for free.

I mostly purchase all of my games, especially the ones that are good with Multiplayer, like CoD and Halo.

I'm also ticked off that they never made Halo wars on PC, and that they killed of Cross-Platform gaming.

Hell, I just hooked up an old Pentium 4 3.4Ghz HT 2MB cache computer up, over clocked it to 3.76Ghz, added 2GB DDR2 Crucial Ram to it, and a 8800GT and away it went. Plays Crysis and GTAIV lawlessly on medium. The computer was released in late 2004, it just comes to show.

I honestly do not blame the ignorant for not wanting to learn and turn away from mainstream products, as they are forced to buy it. You know, the “new” thing on the selves that’s a “must have” because “everyone else has one” etc.

The only thing I hate is when both platform players fight each other over the internet on things like YouTube. I’m going to finish by saying: Fighting on the internet is like running the Special Olympics, even if you win, your still retarded.

Regards,
- One pissed of random guy at Microsoft.

This will be an ongoing debate and what seperates people is their preference.

The more "hardcore" of us will choose the PC and most PC gamers build their own whereas the less technically aware of us would choose the console option because of its simplicity of use. That's not to say they're not as hardcore but, from what I have decduced, that's what the hardcore generally tend to sway towards. As I have said, it's all down to preference.

Personally, I think PC is the best.

That’s not to say they’re not as hardcore but, from what I have decduced, that’s what the hardcore generally tend to sway towards. As I have said, it’s all down to preference.

Personally, I think PC is the best.

^^ The problem with PC Gaming is, they yet to this day have not created a PC "Gaming OS" You always need to have around 150-250 Windows kernal files running in the background forcing you to own a faster PC just to play a game.

The original "Xbox" or "PS2" OS was only 2MB's... Compare that to Vista? 2gb+ it's terrible. I mean, if they had of made a Gaming OS, you would be able to play GTA IV on a Pentium 4 1.8ghz - With a decent graphics card. But no, they force you to purchase a Quad core PC, which even then uses up 95% of the CPU on medium.

It's all a scam, to force people into purchasing Consoles. I even considerd getting the 360 for a second, but I changed my mind. I'm a Keyboard + Mouse FPSer, I can't play on a controller when it comes down to FPS.

Blah, anyways, to point is, its all propaganda, I mean, the specs of the 360 is pretty close to a Pentium 4, and the graphics to it is around the same of the 7300GS... (Which is a very old card) but becuase the OS is dedicated for one thing, and one thing only, it plays games to its fullest and best.

Screw Microsoft in my opinion, they have killed PC gaming and their loving it, due to the billions they made of the 360.

Just my 2 cents.

I just want to say, I'm still running my $600 PC I bought back in late 2004-05. It was on christmas sale, price cut from $700 (in 2005, don't forget.) It came with its standard 17" TFT etc.

It came with Pentium Dual 3.2ghz x2 with 1GB Ram and a 80GB HDD. In the past 4 years, all I have done is added a new graphics card and an extra gig of ram, for $80 and I'm still useing it! I just recently tested it against an xb0x360 playing Far Cry 2, and it was 99% the same in graphics and speed.

It's my AIO. I have MicroXP and Media Centre 2005 on it, I use the MicroXP for gaming, and Media Centre 2005 as my Satalite, T.V recorder, DVD Player... etc. And yes, it is hooked to my T.V, the same way you get the cable for your console and hook it up to the T.V, it's not rocket science.

So just to say, stop being falling for propaganda, and corporate advertisments. I mean, I went on a website recently, and it was promoting a so called "gaming monster" for $4000 with the hardware that wouldn't cost me $399 on Newegg or eBay.

It's all a scam, it tests peoples ignorance and ability to think. Just becuase its the new thing on the selve, they know millions of people will buy it.

Blah! Makes me sick.

People say that you need to always pay to upgrade for parts... No you don't. I'm still useing the graphics card I bought for £45 from eBay back in 2006. I just overclock it everytime. It plays GTAIV in full graphics - High.

Pwned. Once again. Stop being lazy. Plug in 2 more cables and use your fingers god gave you to hit "install."

quote: "I will also be able to play in comfort in my living room lounging on my sofa with the Xbox 360 hooked up to my big TV and my surround sound system. A PC simply cannot offer this."

A PC DOES offer this, it's called a "graphics card". You can hook your PC up to any TV for that matter, even the old style RF modulator connections. I can put together a PC that can easily compare to an Xbox 360 (graphics and processing power) for around the same price. Maybe "your" pc simply cannot offer that, but anyone's can if they want to make it happen.

quote: "I will also be able to play in comfort in my living room lounging on my sofa with the Xbox 360 hooked up to my big TV and my surround sound system.

"The PC simplay cant offer this"

It's not even hard to hook up your PC to your TV and SS.

HOWEVER People dont do this because standard TVs and Even 1080P TVs cant give the graphical quality a PC screen does.

XHD (about 150% of 1080P HD) was normal in new PC games back in 2005.

Even though the xbox boasts HDTV which means high resolutions, that means buying a HD Ready tv which costs over $1000. And plus the extra $400 for the xbox 360 it adds up to $1400. And you can buy a kick ass pc for the same price that wil easily outperform the xbox.
The PC Online community outnumberes the Xbox Live community by 100 to 1. There are a lot more advantages to a pc than a console. WIth a pc you can download demos, watch movies, create skins, maps for games and download full MMORPG games all this for free!
Pc's can already outperform the consoles, the XBox uses a custom ATI graphics card w ith 512mb memory, You can now get them for the pc with 2000mb(2gb). 360 uses a 3.2ghz processor, Pc's can get up to 4.8ghz and more........
The consoles graphics will never be upgraded untill another consoles is released, thats the advantage of a PC whereas you can simply upgrade the Graphics card and you will play better games with no problem.
Console can only do 1 thing, Gaming, a PC can do 1,000,000 things. Thats why they are more expensive.
Everytime a console will be released, the pc will outperform it in months, not to mention the PS3 has already been stomped by the PC power and hasn't even been released.

A lot of people are concentrating on price and how a high end PC costs more than the latest console. All very true but people aren't looking past the initial hardware outlay. Games are usually a thrid cheaper on the PC (Battlefield 2 is £25 on PC and £40 on console). Not only that but hardware is cheaper too when it comes to joysticks, controllers etc. Also, many games don't have brilliant copywrite protection of them and can be downloaded or burnt easily for free without any chipping of your machine (I know it's illegal but even "criminals" have to way up the options).
Also, I am very suprised that no one has mentioned the ability for PC games to envolve unlike console games. Popular PC games get updates which are often free which gives you an extra gun or a new level and most importantly fix any bugs that the prgrammers didn't notice. Imagine this, you've just bought the latest football game on your console and you discover you can score everytime from a certain area of the pitch taking any challenge out of the game. You're stuck with it wheras the PC version owners would be able to download a patch that stops the exploit. With "expansion packs" you can often add around 50% to your current game's contents which isn't possible with consoles.
The ability to play online effectivley, cheapily and freely are also in the PC's favour. Using Battlefield 2 as an example again, you can play for free on 64 player servers for as long as you want whereas on the current Xbox you are limited to 24 players and have to pay for Xbox live (however much that costs).
For those citing the console's ability to hook up to the latest HDTVs, the console still loses out to the PC IMO. Any half decent graphics card from the past few years will have TV out and most now have fully digital HD outputs too. The graphics card in the PC will handle resolutions way beyond any "HD"TV and can be easily hooked up. Furthermore, HDTVs at the moment can't compete when it comes to good ol' CRT monitors. The response times mean you get ghosting effectings where it doesn't run smoothly (blurring when anything moves fast on the screen). The brightness and contrast levels are terrible meaning night levels are pitch black a lot of the time. With these factors in mind I don't belive the extra size or flashyness of your huge HDTV Plasma compensates for lack in pure gaming quality.

With “expansion packs” you can often add around 50% to your current game's contents which isn't possible with consoles.
The graphics card in the PC will handle resolutions way beyond any “HD”TV and can be easily hooked up.

Also, many games don't have brilliant copywrite protection of them and can be downloaded or burnt easily for free without any chipping of your machine (I know it's illegal but even "criminals" have to way up the options).

price point will always be an issue.. but lets face it.. the ps3 which is supposed to be even better than the xbox 360 is probably as good as a machine im building righ tnow.. and ps3 wont come out till middle of next year.. ps3 was said to have roughly sli dual 680 chips on it.. .. big whoop.. im buildng a 1000 gig raid 0 dual core amd x2 48000 dual nvidia 7800.. thats half a gig of video memory alone.. yeah.. it cost more.. but your getting more.. and your getting it now! plus.. you get so much more.. you cant compare a lousy console to everything that a full fledged computer can offer ??? internet.. email, games , sound.. graphics you name it.. a console is exactly that.. a console to play games.. ooh and it plays dvds.. whooo..
lets compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges..
if you ve got the money.. get a pc from alien ware.. and let these crap consoles rest in pieces..
(another comment.. at teh latest gameing convention people could not notice the difference between the way quake 4 looked on "current" pc gameing platforms and xbox 360... )

Someone mentioned that the PC was not compatable with TVs. I have found some TVs that claim that there large screen televisions can double as a computer screen (Samsung). I want to know if DLP HDTV's and surround sound can be used with the PC like the x box 360? Also someone said that blue tooth technology allows wireless mouses though usb ports to reach up to 20 ft. disadvantage would be that there would be more latency, maybe a directly connected mouse would be better

Hmm, I already have my Media Centre 2005 PC linked up to my new HDTV (Tosh 37" WLT58) ;it has a Ati 9700pro card and played HL2 Lost cost ok. aswell as the Need for speed Most wanted demo.
Am I really loosing out ?
Probably not - but that PC probably cost over £1k to put together whereas a Xbox360 will cost under £300

So basicly , I thought..

Am I really loosing out ?
Some threads are comparing the 360 with current PC Games, the only real advantage seems to be
1. HDTV Res + Widescreen support as standard
2. Ease of use,
3. Just insert DVD and play
4. Common Controller

This sucks BIG TIME.
I Pre-ordered 2 360's on AUGUST 18th (After the 1st e-mail saying they were accepting pre-orders)
1 From Play.com (uk)
1 From Amazon.co.uk
Come 2nd Dec No email from either.
Called Play.com, sorry sir yes we have shipped you 3 xbox 360 games @ £39.99 but not the console ... . Cannot expect any before xmas. Would you like a refund on the games?
Amazon - Well I wish I could find a way to contact them, I am a hardcore Web browserer but even I cannot find any contact telephone number !..
So 9am Friday I RAN around our local shopping centre...
ToysRUs... Sold out
Game ... Sold out
Hmv ... Sold out
Virgin ... Sold out
Dixons ... Sold out
Argos ... you get the idea.
Thanks Microsoft.
