Videocasting – How Could It Be Used Commercially?

A few months ago I was a bit of a cynic when it came to podcasting and videocasting. I thought that they were just the latest fad among techies which wouldn’t be of interest to the mass market.
Today, I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve been proven wrong and that I’m now a big fan and that I think the sector is going to continue to grow and grow.
What I am still waiting for though, are some killer videocasting services. Techcrunch are currently featuring a new service called poddater that allows members to download videos of people they are interested in to their iPod.
The service is free and allows searching by tag, gender and zip code. Although this is a clever little service, I don’t think it will be a killer app.
I believe there are several sectors that could benefit from videocasting. Below are a few services I would like to see:
- Estate Agents: Recently I was trying to sell my flat and the agent I used made extensive use of videos. Imagine if I could subscribe to their videocast where each day my iPod would download the details and videos of the latest properties that matched my requirements. This service would be fantastic and quite easy to setup.
- Training/Personal Development: Complete courses could be downloaded and watched whenever the user some spare time.
Can you think of any others? I’m sure there are loads.
