TextPayMe launched this week which provides an ultra-simple way to send and receive money. To send money all you have to do send an SMS containing the amount and the recipient’s mobile number (or personal alias) to TextPayMe.
I am so surprised that Paypal haven’t launched this feature yet. A few years ago I had a meeting with their UK team and it was one of the ideas we bounced around.

I have heard of another system set to launch in 06. Its called TXTeller and it has been in development for the past two years. Also will allow payments via text, however, unlike Txtpayme.com, there are no hidden fees (transaction costs). Also, may be easier to use. No phone call required. I will forward any information I can get on their system once it launches.

A saw a similar service over a year ago. I think the name was telewallet. The site described a service identical to TextPayMe but it seems to be gone now.

This service was a success for two years ago in the Netherlands. Now it looks pretty dead…
