Text4Price - Great New SMS Price Comparision Service
I received an email earlier today from Text4Price asking me to check out their new SMS Price Comparison Service, which sends price comparison results to mobile phones by SMS. To use the service shoppers simply send an SMS with the word “find†plus the product name to 84070 e.g. “find WPN824″. If the service can find a match an SMS is sent back with the lowest price found. If no match is found there is no charge, if a match is found the SMS costs 25p.
I tested the service to see if it could locate a Netgear WPN824 router. I sent ‘find wpn824′ to the service. In response to this text, I received two SMSs (I hope i wasn’t charged 50p!) - the first one welcoming me to the service, and the 2nd sending me a password so that I could log onto the Text4Price website to see a record of my searches, and of course buy any products located.
I had to send a 2nd text to the service to generate my results. I got the following back
“We found a Netgear RangeMax WPN824 Wireless Router. Lowest online price £68.15. In stock at UDIGGIT.COM”
Below are the details that were saved online:

Overall, I’m very impressed with the service and I’m definitely going to use this when I’m out and about to compare prices. All it is lacking is a mobile ordering channel, but I’m sure they are working on this as they are all ready automatically creating accounts for all users - all they would need is for users to enter their credit card details on the web.

I have started to use a lot. I prefer this service because it gives me back the top 3 prices rather than just the cheapest, its useful for working out an average - sometimes the cheapest is a “junk” price due to a bad feed!
