Off-Topic: US Military To Test Hyperdrive

Like a lot of people (I think!) I wanted to be an Astronaut when I was younger.  I even went as far as changing my insurance offer at University to a 'Theoretical Physics With Space Science' course at UCL.  Luckily, I got my grades and got onto my first-choice course at Cambridge, otherwise my parents probably would have murdered me!

Anyway, I still love reading stories like this one on the The Register.  Apparently, the US military is looking into testing a Hyperdrive like the one popularised on shows like Star Trek.

Will the thing work?  Who knows.  Is it even theoretically possible?  Who cares!  Some people just like pushing boundaries as far as possible, and going where no man has been before (pun).

Anyway, if quantum mechanics, six-dimensional physics and Einstein's
general theory of relativity tickles your fancy then check out this article.
