HDTV Buying Guide

I took the plunge yesterday and splashed out on a HDTV. I was going to try and hold out until the summer when HD broadcasts should be available in the UK, but I just couldn’t resist it.

Choosing a HDTV wasn’t easy but after spending a few hours doing my research I finally plumped for a Hitachi 42 inch plasma. I wanted to make sure that my ‘HD Ready’ TV was actually HD Ready, but I was astounded to find that retailers still aren’t playing fair and are promoting TVs as HD when they aren’t, which will only cause customers problems further down the line.

If you are planning on buying a HDTV in the near future here are some good links that helped me work out what I needed:

With HD Plasma Televisions getting better every day and prices falling, you are able to get a decent TV for much less than what you would have paid a year back. Manufacturers of LCD Televisions and Plasma TVs fighting to get your custom, so take your time to compare and check the specifications.

I guess one lesson to learn here is; do your research. What does it honestly take? Don’t depend on a sales person to make your purchase decision on your HDTV (or any other product). Look how many non hdtv’s are stuck on the shelves in the shops. Plasma screens (only) can be picked up for next to nothing. Sales patter will tell you otherwise but unless you have a room in your house/flat that doesn’t require Hi def, don’t even bother entertaining them.

It only takes a few minutes to look for unbiased reviews online of your favorite HDTV before deciding to buy it. I personally assess things based on the quality of what I pay for.
