Is The Bubble Bursting Already For The PS3?

I don’t know if it’s me, but over the last week or so I’ve been sensing that commentators are slowly turning against the PS3. Maybe it’s the $600 pricepoint, or maybe it’s the lack of clear guidance from Sony on what the games are going to be like, particularly the online experience. I don’t know, but one thing I’m sure about is that both Nintendo and Microsoft have gained ground on Sony this week.
Don’t get me wrong, Playstation is still currently the biggest gaming brand but I’m sensing that Sony are about to make the same mistake with the PS3 as they did with the PSP which is to pack it with too many features in an attempt to make it a jack-of-all-trades, rather than being the master of one and focusing on its core role of playing games.
I think Kotaku summed it up very well in response to SCEI president Ken Kutaragi’s attempts to justify the PS3’s hefty price:
“So he’s basically saying no game machines compare to the PS3 because the PS3 is less a game console than a way to force Blu-Ray into a lot of people’s homes. Too bad gamers care a lot less about Blu-Ray than they do about great games, pretty graphics and innovation.”
