My Ten Favourite World Cup Goals

I watched about 20 mins of the Poland Vs Ecuador game to convince myself that if England wins its group, they’ll have no problems beating either of them, as both teams looked quite poor. Even the novelty of watching in HD wasn’t enough to keep me going (I don’t know if it’s my imagination but the BBC HD broadcast looks 10 times better than the ITV HD broadcast).

Anyway, given that I’ve gone football mad this week I’ve been on the net searching for something else to keep me entertained and I thought I’d try and find videos of my 10 favourite goals. Admittedly most of my goals are from 1982 onwards as I was only 6 months old in 1974 and I think the 1978 World Cup went over my head.

Here are my favourite goals.

10. Diego Maradona (ARG) Vs Belgium in 1986

The first Maradona goal in my top 10. Belgium were so scared of the maestro. I love this picture which shows SEVEN belgium players trying to stop him. Easily my favourite world cup picture.

9. Dennis Bergkamp (HOL) Vs Argentina in 1998

One of the best goals of 1998. Great skill and balance from Bergkamp. I’ll miss him as he’s definitely been one of the best players I’ve seen.
