Guide To Optimizing WordPress Servers
Optimise MySQL Database
Like any other database, over time the MySQL database that powers your blog can get a bit rough around the edges and would benefit from a spring clean. The graph below shows the improvement WeblogToolsCollection obtained from optimising their databases:
Optimising MySQL database’s is a doddle if you have access to PHPMyAdmin (it’s a good idea to backup your databases before you do this!):
- Click on the database your blog uses
- Click the ‘check all’ box at the bottom to select all tables
- Then click on the ‘Optimize table’ option in the drop-down box also at the bottom
If you have any more speed tips then please share them below. An obvious one is to uninstall plugins, but I’m not keen on this as I think it defeats the whole point of using an opensource blogging tool like WordPress. Agreed, some plugins may be written badly and end up being resource hogs, but I think that’s where WordPress is great as the community works together to make the overall product better. There’s nothing better than having 100K or so active and passionate users helping with product development!
Hope you found this tips useful. If you did, don’t forget to share them with other users using the icons below.
