CreditCard Sized PC With Wi-FI
The boffins at Israeli-based company Compulab managed to squeeze an
Intel XScale chip running Windows CE or Linux, half a gig of flash, 128MB of RAM, AC ’97 sound and a Philips 802.11b wireless interface into a creditcard sized device. Other bits and bobs include a PCI bus, 4 USB host ports and wired networking.Impressive spec, and given that the device retails for $47 I imagine that this we will see similar functionality in PDAs soon.
I haven’t owned a PDA since 2002 when I bought a bluetooth IPAQ to use with my Sony Ericsson T68. Since then I’ve been trying to use my various smartphones, but I’ve never quite achieved the same experience because of lack of sync support and poor battery life which means my phones, particularly my Nokia N80, don’t make it through the day.
If PDAs come onto the market with this kind of power, I might have to invest again. It would go against my objective of trying to use as few devices as possible, but I think I might have to get a dedicated PDA, in the same way as I have a dedicated music player in my iPod, as my N80 doesn’t quite do the job at work.

N80? Nokia’s quite anemic for me when it comes to office functionality.
Give the Ericsson P990i a whirl. This baby even does financial calculations while juggling excel reports and contract docs. It’s my ultimate biz tool. 2nd to my laptop.
