FACT Recruits Full-Time Detective To Combat Movie Piracy

The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) in the UK has recruited a full-time detective to patrol cinemas to try and catch potential pirates in the act of recording movies, to be later made into DVDs or shared online.

The role has been created in recognition of the fact that movie copying is no longer confined to the United States where movies used to be released first. Now that movies tend to be given simultaneous global releases, the chances of a copy originating from the UK are much higher.

I’m not really sure how effective one guy will be considering there are over 700 cinemas in the UK and over 3,500 screens. The chances of catching someone in the act must also be nearly impossible considering how small cameras are now.
