5 New Cool Plugins

I decided it was time to give the old blog some new functionality. I was going to implement a new theme, but couldn’t find one I liked (or one where I was comfortable tweaking!). So, I went on a plugin hunt to try and freshen up the old site. Here are five new WordPress plugins I’ve installed today that you might want to add to your blog.

  • Comment Karma

This is a plugin for WordPress blogs that allows users to rate or moderate other users comments. You can click thumbs up or down, and it will give them a positive or negative number. Basically the exact same thing you’ll find on Digg or Slashdot.

    • Wordpress PDA Plugin

Thanks to Ben Richards I installed this great plugin which makes Wordpress blogs readable on PDAs

    • Advanced Search

The search engine in Wordpress is one of the few dissapointments I had with the overall functionality. I’ve corrected this flaw by adding this great plugin that:

    • Intelligent Search: Searches for words, not character strings
    • Supports usage of boolean operators
    • Allows limiting the search to one or more categories and/or authors
    • Allows setting the search scope to posts, pages and/or comments
    • Search results can be ranked by relevance or date
    • A blog owner can fully customize the search form

    • DiggClick

DiggClick can be configured to add a ‘digg it’ button on all posts. The plugin can be also be set to detect incoming links from digg.com to your wordpress post and automatically display a link back, that will make it easier for people to digg your story.

    • Lightbox2

This plugin is responsible for the cool effects on all thumbnails on my blog. This lightbox plugin is by far the easiest to implement and use, adding the code automatically to all images.
