I was just doing some desk research at work and I’ve just learnt via Alexa, that Orkut an Internet social network service run by Google and named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten is the 11th largest web property.
The reason why I find this is amazing is firstly because I’ve never used Orkut or even received an invite, and secondly after asking around the office most people hadn’t even heard of Orkut and none were users. You may think that this isn’t very surprising, but I work for a large ISP and it’s our business to know these kinds of things.
Can someone send me an invite please to admin@connectedinternet.co.uk. I’m interested to see what is driving the usage, over and above other networking sites. Is it the exclusivity? If you’re a user then please share your thoughts, as I’m astounded that a networking site that is ‘closed’ can grow so fast, even if Google is behind it.
