I’m Ranked #2 On Google For “Playstation 3 Preorder” - How Do I Monetise?
I’ve just installed Mint and I think it’s going to be one of the best investments I’ve made. I’ve been struggling to get to grips with what people are doing on Connected Internet and I’ve been looking around for a good search tool. After doing a few Google searches I discovered Mint, and even though it costs $30 I thought I’d give it a go.
Although Mint doesn’t give historical information, it does give a hell of a lot of information about where users are coming from, what they read and where they go to next. This information is like gold dust and I’m certain I’ll be able to use it to better target what I write about, and also my site design.
One thing that struck me straight away, is how much traffic I’m getting from Google for people looking for Playstation 3 Preorders. After checking it out on Google I’ve realised I’m ranked:
- #2 on Google UK For ‘Playstation 3 pre-order‘ after Amazon.co.uk
- #2 on Google UK For ‘Playstation3 preorder’
- #3 on Google For ‘Playstation 3 pre-order‘ after home.bt.connecte.com and Amazon again
- #3 on Google UK for ‘Playstation3 preorder‘
- #4 for on Google UK for ‘PS3 preorder‘
etc etc.
How do I monetize this? The traffic is obviously going to get bigger and bigger as the UK launch date gets closer. Do i contact Dixons directly or HMV and sell banners directly? I tried setting up a Amazon affiliates account, but I couldn’t create a PS3 pre-order badge.
Advice please!

Hi
I just found your site via Google. If you do get some PS3s can I Pleaaaaassssssssse have one?

You, know what - I still have a lot of ECommerce contacts in the UK. I’ll contact them tomorrow to see if I’ll be able to get my hands on a few Playstation 3s when they come out.
That’s how I got half a dozen Xbox 360s last year for some of my friends(including Dollarman on Christmas Eve!) and myself of course, so I should be able to do the same with the Playstation 3.
I’ll keep you posted

Hey Everton,
I’m not into gaming or hardware that much (so I don’t know what affilaite programs might be out there) but I can surely recommend you a certain wordpress plugin that shows you content ONLY if the user is coming from google.
So for those visitors that are specifically searching the PS3 search words, serve an affiliate banner. For the rest Adsense.
Anyway, from my experience, in 90% of the cases, affiliate programs yield a lot more money then Adsense will.

Everton,
Likewise, if you’re able to reserve PS3 please put 1 aside for me please.
Thanks once again for the xbox 360

Step 1
Add concrete information on that post about how to preorder a playstation - you might also want to change the post title to “playstation 3 pre-order - get your PS3 on time” or something like that. The idea is to have a call of action for everyone that lands on that page from google (or wherever).
As Cristian said, it’s a good idea to add an affiliate banner, but instead of adding a banner you can do a short preview of a 1-2 websites selling PS3s on pre-order and get them to hook you up with an affiliate deal.
Contact the affiliates directly and offer to send them leads from your site.
Step 2
Get more links to that page - CM again could help you with that but basically, one of the easiest ways to do this is to run that playstation 3 contest you’re planning, so at least your site gets some relevant linkage. You can also ask people to link to you (or drop links to that page from your other sites), but that’s up to you how to do it.
Step 3
Once you’ve put together a solid monetization system for ‘playstation 3 preorder’ (affiliate program), put together linkbait on the PS3 along the lines of “top 10 things you may not have known about PS3″ (this is on the digg front page, but for Wii), or a similar list. Get dugg, and you’ve got your links and traffic.
The links won’t go directly to your pre-order page but will get your site a lot of linkjuice, plus you’ll get good traffic to the pre-order page as well.
Also, please remember that I’m just generalising here, if you need help with anything specific just drop me a line (no need to send the PS3 just yet :P)

If you manage to get some PS3s I wouldn’t mind having 1, or maybe 2, please
