ntl:Telewest To Merge With ITV?
I read an interesting report today that claimed that ntl:Telewest are considering a merger with ITV to try and combat its weakness in content, which has always been a major weakness of UK cable, to strengthen its defence against Sky who are now threatening its broadband business.
I don’t know how realistic this rumour is, but I reckon the deal will be more of a collaboration over joint projects rather than a full blown merger if it does happen. ntl have already got their hands full trying to merge with Telewest, much less integrating Virgin mobile as well. The last thing they need in my view is more distractions and another deal.
