Vizu Answers: New Blog Monetisation Tool

There seems to be a never-ending stream of new ECommerce services aimed at bloggers. The latest is Vizu Answers, which allows advertisers to pay for interactive polls on blog sites. Sites that feature polls are paid per impression, not per click which is unusual but in a way reassuring as it should mean that any polls purchased will meet certain quality standards. Another nice touch is that all the activity stays within the blog rather than clicking out to another site.
Creating a poll is very simple, and is just like creating a new Adsense unit. I’ve added one to Connected Internet in the sidebar to replace the What Will Santa Be Bringing You This Christmas poll which has just closed. I think it took me about 3 minutes to create and add.
There’s nothing running as of yet, but apparently what will be displayed for the first couple of days are a few basic polls to profile my readers e.g. age, gender, income etc. Even if Vizu don’t sell any polls on my site, I think getting this info will be very useful.

That looks interesting, do you know how much they pay out ?

You can set your own CPM for the polls and Vizu Answers keep 50%. They claim they will automatically raise the CPM if they see a lot of demand for a site, but not downwards which is good.

I think I might have set too high a CPM, so I’m going to lower it for now so at least I can see some polls running to see what I think of the scheme.

They make monthly payments via cheque or paypal as long as $50 dollars has been earned.

I’m still waiting for my profiling polls to start (In my sidebar where it says ‘Your Market Research Here’), but they said it could take up to 3 days.

You really should give this a go Martin. Polls appeared on my site within 12 hours and given that I’m being paid based on CPM not CPC, it’s a nice new revenue stream and I think the polls integrate a lot better than democracy etc.

Hopefully once Vizu builds up a better profile of my readers, the polls will get a bit more interesting!

I’m tempted, can you define the width of the poll ?

you can set it between 150-300 pixels. I’ll send you a screenshot

    Hi Martin

You said you’d added a Vizu poll. Are you still making respectable money? My current poll is awful and according to Vizu my imps are low which is complete rubbish as I’m doing nearly 3x what they are reporting.

Good idea indeed and a great tool.

[...] Recently my income from Vizu polls has started to improve as they’ve got better at selling campaigns, and Feedburner’s FAN network did really well last month, but they seem to be struggling this month. So far this month my earnings split has been Adsense 70%, TLA 10%, Vizu 8%, FAN 7% and Chitika 2%. If you haven’t signed up for Vizu, I recommend that you do as the polls are getting quite good and they will help to keep users on your site for longer. What I’m hoping is that if I can add another source of income from blogads, then it will help to smooth any future fluctuations in any of the others, particularly Adsense. [...]

Hmmm… they still look pretty dead. An idea to early for its time? Or brain dead. :D
