Is It Time For Google Adsense To Lift Its Ban On Other Contextual Ads?

A post today on the Blog Herald where they question whether using in-line ads are an acceptable practice, has just reminded me of a major beef I have with using Adsense.  Even if many bloggers wanted to use inline advertising on their sites, they can’t as just about every blog uses Google Adsense which as part of the T&Cs doesn’t allow bloggers to show other contextual ads.
As more and more good alternatives for bloggers to monetise their efforts become available, I really think that Google may have to consider lifting their restriction on allowing other contextual ad networks to be used at the same time. On this blog for example I’ve gone from being 100% reliant on Adsense, to only about 60% reliant.
What exactly are they afraid of other than that their own CTR will fall, because users are presented with other meaningful ads?  If they deliver good quality ads, then they won’t have a problem.ÂÂ
It all seems a bit selfish to me.
