Garlik: Find Out How Much Of Your Personal Information Is On The Internet
I’ve just signed up for a new data protection service in the UK called Garlik. The DataPatrol service is a new monthly monitoring service that finds, tracks and monitors your personal information online. After you sign up with DataPatrol, Garlik find and track your personal data across four billion web pages, millions of important public records and data sources.
Once they’ve finished their data-gathering a report is produced, and monthly updates are sent notifying users of any changes to their details. This acts like an early warning system against identity fraud and personal data breaches.
At the moment the Data Patrol service is free, and I’ve just received my prelimary report which contains my credit rating. I haven’t checked my credit rating for about 10 years, and I was amazed at some of the details and also amazed to see what was bringing my score down.
Can you believe that my score was being pulled down because I don’t have a lot of credit or searches being produced against my name? I guess someone who has a lot of borrowings has a better score, as they have a history of being able to pay back bills and managing their budgets. I’m planning on moving homes next year and going seriously into debt by borrowing as much as I can to get a better place - I guess I need to apply for a few credit cards now just to get my score up!
Seriously though, this looks like a very interesting service and I might even pay for the full service as it only costs £29.99 per year.
