Hitwise Review Threshers Disastrous ‘Viral’ Campaign

Heather Hopkins from Hitwise has produced an interesting analysis of the online fiasco over at Threshers this week.

For those of you who missed it, Threshers, the high street off-license (AKA wine store) sent a 40% discount voucher around to suppliers and distributors. Unfortunately they didn’t factor in the power of email, and the offer spread virally across the web and resulted in a stampede by UK consumers eager to get their Christmas tipple.  (If you missed out on the offer, then I’ve attached a copy of the coupon at the end of the post)

The chart below shows the almost ‘Digglike’ impact on the Thresher website.

Hitwise report that:

Visits to the Threshers website (http://www.threshers.co.uk/) surged eight-fold last week and the site ranked #37 among Grocery and Alcohol websites up from #103 the week before.

Update: I can’t work out how to attach the coupon, but all you need to do is enter the code: WINEORB at the checkout
