Connected Internet Switching To Full RSS Feed
After reading and contributing to the discussion on Digital Inspiration as to whether Full RSS feeds are better than Partial RSS Feeds, I have decided to a offer Full RSS feed even though personally I don’t like them.
‘You can provide a 50,000 word post and I can click “J” to go right past it.’
I disagree slightly with Scoble’s assertion that within Google Reader (which is fast becoming the RSS reader of choice in my view), you can very quickly skip long posts if they aren’t interesting, as on my PC there is a very long pause while a long post is loaded which slows down my ‘J’,'K’,'S’, ‘R’ hotkey rhythm, which just causes me to get frustrated and hammer my keyboard a hundred times. Scoble probably doesn’t notice this pause as he’s probably reading the long-winded articles I’m trying to skip!
So, given that I don’t like full RSS, why have I (grudgingly!) decided to offer a full RSS feed? Well, I no longer think it is fair to force my LOYAL readers to have to use two applications if they don’t want too. So what if I lose some ad revenue? At least they are the people who are reading my posts everyday, which is more important to me. And Feedburner is great as it now includes comment counts and a way to comment if they want to join in a discussion.
Let me know if you think I’m making the right decision, or whether I’ve now added 10 seconds to your day which you could have used to check your Crackberry 10 times per minute rather than 9 times!
