I’m really getting tired of blogs that don’t allow free discussion! I’m more than happy to lead my readers make their point, even if it involves them being critical of me. A recent comment by Saul is a classic example.
However, there are certain blogs such as Valleywag who seem to think that Moderation is the same as Censorship. Yes you can delete comments that use offensive language, but is it ok to remove comments just becuase you don’t like them? I recently left a comment in response to their DIGGBAIT series of posts, where they are deliberately writing posts that will hopefully get on the Digg homepage. For each post that gets on the Digg homepage they’ve agreed to donate $10 to charity.
I posted a comment to warn Valleywag that they needed to be careful as publishing articles deliberately to get on the Digg homepage could lead to enough articles being buried on Digg, which would lead to the site being banned alltogether.
However, someone at Valleywag took offence to my comment and deleted it! Pity I didn’t say what I was really thinking, that Diggbait is a cynical way to game Digg rather than an experiment which is basically asking Valleywag users to assist in getting articles onto the Digg homepage. And, and that donating a measly $10 per Digg homepage article is very stingy given that they will make a couple hundred dollars in advertising for each article!
