Telewest Inheriting ntl’s Bad Customer Service - Bodged TVDrive

I was fuming this afternoon when I got home.  My plasma TV had a message on it saying that my Telewest TV Drive was updating, and that I wasn’t to switch off my set-top box while the update was going through.  Telewest obviously hadn’t thought through the fact that remotely turning on the TVDrive set-top box to update, would also turn on my plasma TV from its standby mode…. I guess no-one at Telewest realised that displaying a static image which would cause image burn in, isn’t a smart move given that the majority of TVDrive customers will have a LCD or plasma screen….

Luckily, I caught the message quickly enough to put my TV into a special mode it has to remove burned in images, so there wasn’t any permanent damage.  I dread to think what would have happened if I’d got home an hour later - I doubt Telewest would have compensated me for any damage.
After 3 hours of waiting for my TVdrive to update, I gave up and pressed Reset but unfortunately it still isn’t working.  I’m not going to bother calling in, and according to The Register it probably would be a waste of my time as Telewest don’t even seem to be awknowledging the problem.

I’m so glad my main TV now comes my Hauppauge/Freeview combo which never ever fails me.  Ever since I’ve had my TVDrive it’s just been one problem after another.
