Darren Rowse from Problogger ran a survey asking his readers how much they made from Google Adsense in November 2006. At first the results surprised me by how low the average was, as I was expecting to be envious of the amounts that full-time Probloggers like Darren make.
But then I realised that the low earnings being reported could be because the majority of Darren’s readers are probably just starting out on their blogging journey and are looking for simple tips, or people who have got on the blogging bandwagon trying to just make a quick buck.
I really hope that in Darren’s next survey he looks at what bloggers are making overall on their sites, and not just their Adsense income. Over the last couple of months I’ve managed to reduce my total reliance on Adsense by adding other sources of income and now my monthly income comes from the following sources:
- Google Adsense – about 65%
- Text-link Ads - about 20%
- Feedburner – about 10%
- Vizu polls – about 5%
I’m quite happy with the results and it’s definitely opened my eyes to the fact that Google Adsense isn’t the ‘be all and end all’, and I’d like to reduce my reliance further. My next project is to get an invite for blogads (if you’re already a member I’ll be your best mate if you can help) as I think it’s a nice scheme, that won’t clutter my site with awful ads like Adbrite did.
I also want to have a crack over Christmas at integrating my Chitika ShopLink store. I’m going to try Darren’s advice and add links to my old product related posts.
