Visit The New Connected Internet Forum!

forum.gifI decided on a whim last night to create the Connected Internet Forum! However, the more time I spent creating the forum (about 2 hours in total) the more and more I convinced myself that setting up a forum was a good idea.

Over the last month or so I’ve realised that the same readers are stalking me and are reading the same blogs. This has really hit home over the last week, as I’ve been paying more attention to the blogs that have deployed MyBlogLog tracking, and I’ve been seeing the same faces appearing over and over again.

What I’m hoping is that the new forum will allow my users to interact more with each other, by allowing them to start and grow their own conversations and to talk direct to each other, rather than being limited to whatever I’ve posted about. I’m also hoping that some of the many 1-2-1 conversations that I have via email will start migrating over to the forums, so that other users can participate and maybe even reduce my email volume by answering queries before I do!

My host provided a choice of either installing phpBB2 or SMF via Fantastico. I know absolutely nothing about forums so I did a quick google search and the ‘experts’ seemed to be favouring SMF, so I plumped for this option. So far I’ve found it easy to use, but I haven’t made any real tweaks so please share any tips.

I deliberately setup the forum on a subdomain at forum.connectedinternet.co.uk rather than connectedinternet.co.uk/forum, as this is what we told to do at work whenever we launch a new channel or portal to improve search engine listings, reach and SEO. I’m not sure how true this is, but I do seem to remember Yahoo’s ‘reach’ almost doubling a few years ago when they spent a quarter consolidating their domains.
I’ve seeded the new forum with some posts and boards to try and kick-start things. Please help me get the forum going by seeding your own topics. This could be as simple as linking to your one of your own posts, or telling other readers about a cool plugin, mod, or extension you’ve seen. I know it might seem strange talking to yourself, but hopefully it won’t be long before the forum becomes active.

If you haven’t registered on the forum yet, then get a move on!

    Hi delya

I’m not sure - I don’t use Yahoo Messenger. Post the same question in the Help board in the forum, and I’m sure one of the more technical people like AJ or Ryan will be able to help.
