Google Clears Up Images Near Adsense Ads

adsense_images.jpgIt’s taken Google longer than I expected to clear up whether it is ok to place images next to Adsense ads to increase clickthrough rates. Yesterday, Google very clearly said that they don’t approve of this tactic. Even adding spaces or vertical lines to separate images and Google Ads, will be regarded as a Adsense TOS violation.

The example in the image from Digital Inspiration is a bit extreme, but it gives you an idea of the type of tactics some sites were adopting. All I can say is that although some sites were clearly taking it too far, it DID improve CTR rates. This could be why Google is currently experimenting with different designs and logos in its ads.

  • This seems to have been the bane of many a webmaster that seemed to need "G"'s PPC program for revenue. Obviously there is a problem with what "G" did to past advertisers'. My question is, will all the banned accounts dure to image infractions be asked to come back to "G"'s service? I'll wait and see.

  • I was planing on using Adsense Beautifier for this, but that is definitely out.

i can understand the sudden policy reversal by Google.
  • Thanks for posting that image with your post. That clears up the question that I was asking at my blog. I suppose when it comes to pictures like that, it would realy increase clicks. I see why Google is worried about inflated ad costs for their Adwords subscribers.

    Keep up the good blogging!
