Crickee: Send Free Unlimited SMS From Your Phone And PC

Finding the Crickee service was a bonus today. I hardly ever look at my Technorati inlinks, but my eye was drawn to the ‘Crickee Blog’ link as it looked like spam. I was pleasantly surprised to not only find that I was ‘Crickees ‘Crush Of The Week‘, but to also discover that Crickee offered a great free PC and Mobile SMS service, which offers unlimted SMSs.

To send SMSs the Crickee site has to be used, or a special client downloaded to your phone. Downloading the client was simple. All I had to do to download the client was enter my phone number on the site and a WAP push message was sent with a link to download the client.

I’m not sure what the recipient sees yet or whether they can reply. If they can reply to my phone (and I’m guessing this is how Crickee will make money) then I’m going to switch over all of my SMSs to this. I tend to send around 200 SMSs a month which costs me £24. Crickee have estimated that 100 SMS will use around 100Kb of data, so if I use my Vodafone network then it will only cost me 45p to send 200 SMSs.

Using Crickee will mean that I’ll also be able to send more international SMSs which I try not to do as I think they cost around 50p a pop. Better still, is the fact that if I use the WiFi connection on my Nokia N80 then sending the SMS will cost me nothing.

The service is available in most countries which is fantastic, as all Connected Internet readers should be able to give the service a go.

[...] According to Everton, he even managed to get the service to work via a WiFi connection, which removes or reduces any mobile data charges you might have had. More: Crickee [...]
