Server Issues Finally Over - Moved To A Dedicated Server

My server issues are finally over. PowerVPS just made me an offer I couldn’t refuse for my own Dedicated Server. I’m not going to give the price as I think they’ve done me a special deal to stop me leaving as I couldn’t afford their standard Dedicated Servers, but it’s as good as, or better than some of the budget Dedicated Server offerings that typically aren’t fully Managed Servers or even have cPanel/WHM bundled in.

I’m really glad they made me an offer to stay as I can’t fault the quality of PowerVPS’s service. The problems I’ve been having were because I’d just gotten too big for a VPS. Also, my experimental site which is on the same server suddenly got on the Digg homepage yesterday, and the deluge of traffic and users took my server down within 5 minutes. I never got to see how many users digg sent, but PowerVPS said that when they had managed to get the site back online when things had calmed down a bit, there were 700 people on the site.

I’m currently on a Intel core 2 duo E6600 with 4G RAM and it is zipping along despite the other site being dugg. PowerVPS are preparing a similar server for me, but based on the previous CPU model (dual-core 3.0ghz P4, 4G RAM, 300GB 2xhdd raid1, dedicated 300GB backup hdd and 1000GB transfer for those of you that care) so it’ll have more than enough power to handle anything I’ll be throwing at it in 2007. It also comes with a 24×7 monitoring service, so PowerVPS will fix problems before I even notice them.
One final apology for the site problems over the last month or so, but hopefully now we won’t be seeing them for a long, long time.

Congratulations on that. You sure are spending a bomb! But, I guess big sites need that.

    Congratulations man!
I didn’t know that they use the core 2 due E6600 as a server but I believe it can handle it :)

I see that you are having a great new year(according to your feeds ;) )

    Keep up the good work!

The E6600 is only temporary until I they get my dual-core 3.0ghz P4 ready.

I’m very happy with my recent feedcount increase, I’m nearly back to my early 2006 levels which is good. I still wonder how many potential readers I’ve lost through downtime/bad site speeds.

The funny thing is my feedblitz email feed hasn’t been turned on for a few months (which isn’t included in my feedburner count) and I only turned it on at the weekend when I noticed. I was worried that a lot of users would churn as they hadn’t been receiving the feed for a while, but I’ve only lost 4 leaving me with 131 (you can see the count at the bottom of my sidebar)
