Pirated HD DVD Movies Already On BitTorrent

Despite AACS, the DRM shared by HD DVD and Blu-ray, being touted as being practically unbreakable the first pirated HD DVD movie has already been loaded onto BitTorrent.  Serenity (I thought the movie was a bit weak personally) has been uploaded in the EVO format, which should play on PowerDVD.  According to CyberNetNews the file is 19.6GB, which is rather hefty - even on my 10MB connection it would take me about 4-5 hours to download.

I think once again it proves that once again media companies have taken the wrong approach to distributing their content.  Relying on DRM systems that don’t allow even genuine users to make copies of their own content, isn’t the answer, as someone will always find a loophole.  What they need to focus on in my view is finding a way to make the distribution of genuine content so good that the majority of users will be willing to pay for it, rather than download a pirate copy.

They should start giving their customers what they want and I bet that they would earn more. DRM is just a way to squeeze more money out of the customers, it does not influence piracy at all.

Other movies have been released as well like Superman Returns with a filesize of about 30 gigs.

Is 30 Gigs going to be the average size for HD DVDs? I’m going to need some more storage!

Do you know of any programs that will copy HD DVD discs to HDD?
