Although I’d only recently re-joined BlogTopSites I’ve just decided to leave. Although I tended to pretty much consistently get placed in the top 5 Internet ‘blogs’, I’ve started to question the value of being listed in a directory that contains so many sites that aren’t blogs.
In the past it was nice being associated with other respected blogs, but given that Blog Top Sites are letting in almost anybody now, including sites that are clearly faking their stats (e.g. one site I saw had about a 200 page view to visitor ratio) or aren’t even blogs, I can’t see the point anymore. I’ve noticed that other sites have left recently including problogger and JohnTP, probably for similar reasons.
I’ve noticed that many of my readers display BlogTopSites’ site counter, even when your site is ranked in the hundreds. Do you plan on leaving your counter in place, or are you thinking of removing it given the bad performance and low relevancy of BlogTopSites’ listings?
