22% Of Windows Installations “Non Genuine”

According to information released by Microsoft, 22% of systems validated using Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) proved non-genuine External Link.

Since WGA launched in July 2005, over 512 million users have attempted to validate their copy of Windows, Microsoft said. Of those, the non-genuine rate was 22.3 percent. 56,000 reports have been made by customers of counterfeit software, which grants that user a free replacement copy of Windows.

I find this number astounding. I knowthat you can’t get better than ‘free’, but the hassles of constantly trying to get around Microsoft’s validation checks must surely get annoying after a while, and make it worth while paying?
