WordPress 2.1 And UTW Database Issues
I don’t know if the problem was caused by upgrading to WordPress 2.1 or by UTW, but my mysql database went mental last night when I tried to edit a post. At first I got UTW tag errors, and then the whole site just died.
Ajay has been running a thread about UTW and WordPress 2.1 issues. I initially decided that until someone confirms that UTW is safe to run with WordPress 2.1 I was going to disable it. But then after checking my stats I decided I can live without UTW permanently.
Under 1% of my traffic comes from Technorati, who ‘rely’ on my UTW tags. Given that UTW is the main reason why my pages were loading slowly, and also now because of the potential incompatibility issues I’ve decided to disable UTW permanently.
I’d rather lose that 1% of traffic and give a better user experience to the other 99% of users, as well as reducing the risk that the site will go down again. In fact, I probably lost more traffic in the last 12 hours than Technorati sent to me all of last year!

That’s why I’m so mad about SEO as this blog has only made it to where it is today thanks to Google. That’s why I’m releasing themes and plugins to try and get those extra links I need to hit PR6. I wish I knew how to get more traffic from other search engines. I know Google is the biggest but they aren’t 70x the size of Yahoo!

Yeah, that’s weird/unfortunate. Maybe I’ll get some comments on my old posts now!

#1 Are you sure you’re not being indexed? Your PR is 3 so Google know you exist

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!
Strange! How come I`m not indexed and I have a PR 3!!!
And how I got a PR 3 in first place?!!!!

I did analyze my stats and Google is sending 10 times the visitors that yahoo is sending to my website. I’m not using Technorati to gain traffic directly but to gain the attention of other webmasters who link to my articles from their blog. This is the important aspect of Technorati in my opinion.

do you think Technorati plays a big role in attracting other bloggers?
Comment by Martin on 30 January 2007:
Well I think that Technorati is mainly used by webmasters, especially bloggers, and that they tend to search for keywords that fit their websites to find inspiration for new posts.
I don’t know if Technorati is responsible for most of my links but I suspect it plays a role. Would be interesting to have some stats about this.

Enblogopedia - you probably got a PR3 cause I’ve been linking to you

EB, why not try and check out Jerome’s Keywords, which is a good replacement for UTW. There is also another alternative, can’t remember the name.

I will do Ajay at the weekend. I’m just loving the difference turning off UTW has made to my page loading speeds. It’s amazing isn’t it? We knew it was one of the problems but couldn’t work out why
Comment by Enblogopedia on 31 January 2007:
Yes Everton this is a reason ofcourse!
But Also I got links from my theme in PR5
Which I believe helped me a lot.
BUT the main reason is the Themes page in JohnTP blog it was with PR6! (NOW it`s PR7!!)
By the way you should submit your Theme there!!
