MyBlogLog Need To Tackle Comment Spam Before It Gets Out Of Control

I’m starting to get annoyed by the amount of spam I’m getting from other MyBlogLog users sending me message directly, or leaving messages for MyBlogLog Community.   The messages sent direct to me, wouldn’t be too bad if the email alert contained an excerpt so I wouldn’t waste my time going to the site only to have to delete another pointless message.

What is really winding me up though, are the messages that are being posted on my community message board that I have to delete as I don’t want genuine members to see them.

MyBlogLog reallty need to add the following functionality fast before the professional spammers start using the service:

  • Allow community owners to decide who to allow to join their communities
  • Allow community owners to boot or ban users from their communities
  • Allow community members to moderate comments before they hit the noticeboard

Is there any functionality you would like to see MyBlogLog add?  Is MyBlogLog spam starting to bug you as well?

We will be on to you with more detail as we have it, but we already do a little bit of what you ask. In your view of http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/ConnectedInternet/, please float over the community members faces. you’ll see a little red block with an X just like in the widgets. That works to hide people and their comments. If you’ve hidden people and they still show up in some way we missed, please just say so.

    Hi Scott

I just Googled your name and I’d seen your name popup a few times in comments, but I didn’t realise you were the CEO of MyBlogLog!

Thanks for the tip. I’ll start blocking users. I should have realised that was possible as I noticed you could do that with site visitors. I mentioned to Eric a few weeks ago via email that some of the documentation and help pages needed tightening up, and he agreed.

What do you think of my avatar plugin btw? I’m still doing my bit to push MyBlogLog - you should make me a shareholder ;-)
